Symbols?

Symbols are very important in art. Right? Right! So I was trying to think of as many symbols I could that stand for death, dying or rebirth as I could while planning a painting. I was wondering if anyone else could think of any more then me. From any culture/region I don't care. If you remember where it's from please not it, if not that's fine. This is what I have so far:
skulls (obviously)
blood (again obviously)
a recently extinguished candle
butterflies
ravens / crows
carnations (a common funeral flower in Germany I'm told)
lilies
a shed snake skin
